Cabarette, Dominican Republic Tuesday, June 27th 2006
So after a bus ride from San Pedro de Macoris to Santo Domingo, a "waqua" (some kind of wreck bus stuffed with people and picking up anybody who
walks by while honking) to the Caribe Tours busstation, we where on our way
to Cabarette. I've heard great things of this place and was very anxious to get there. The busride takes about 4 hours and
costs about 8 usd! The ride itself is great the tropical surroundings are great. It took us to Puerto Plata where we took a
motortaxi to the main road and a "waqua" to Cabarette. It was exactly like I imagined. Like a snowboard town, but then with
palmtrees and surf, windsurf and kite shops. Best of all, it was windy! So we ditched our bags and went on the water.
The place is pretty choppy, which is a bit getting used to if you sail ultra flat Spanish Waters too often. However,
there is a great reef, which produces nice waves. They weren't that big when we where there, but was great fun.
On shore we met Pablito who is co-organising a windsurf competition in about three weeks. He invited us to come along and
will help us with accommodations etc. I'll start working on a Curacao team as soon as I arrive..
